Niceto de Larrinaga

Niceto de Larrinaga

A Danish newspaper photo from ca. 1965, perhaps a bit earlier, of the British cargo ship, Niceto de Larrinaga.
The ship came from Chile, via Spain to discharge a part cargo of ca. 5.000 tons of phosphate or salpetre, ( I think ) and left again for the Netherlands.

Must have been a Nitrate Company of Chile cargo. They were basically a British company and it was all arrnaged from sale to fixing the ship through their London office. Loaded nitrate a coupe of times and the first , being a bit wary of nitrate, well I always thought it exploded, asked their 'superl' about what precautions to take to which received the most sussinct reply , 'None, you could throw an Hurricane Lamp on that pile and it still would'nt do anything ,except , probably put the lamp out'., One lives and learns.
