NIEUW AMSTERDAM

The third vessel of this name from this line that I have have photographed: makes me realise that I must be getting on a bit!
The first one was a bit better-looking. See: http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/211695/title/nieuw-amsterdam/cat/520

Yes No. 2 was a really fine looking ship.
In July 1958 we sailed into the Port of Rotterdam, past the Nieuw Amsterdam and the imigrant ship Johan van Oldenbarnveldt (later to become the ill-fated Laconia cruise ship).
On the SS Dotterel we were give priority to enter the port ahead of the other 2 vessels, as we were carrying some chemicals of an explosive nature.
The Nieuwe Amsterdam looked so very sleek when compared to the J.v.O. cattle hauler.

I agree with Stephen. The latest NA is not a bad looking ship. The issues for me are the built-up blocky stern and the funnels that look like one (aft funnel) was installed backward.
