North Sea Ferries "Norstar" passing Immingham 1983

75 Posts
Pictured in September 1983 the North Sea Ferries "Norstar" is seen here passing the Immingham oil terminal on route from Hull to Rotterdam.
She is seen passing the wreckage of the "Stevin 73", a jack up barge that had been used to clear up the mess left behind after the BP tanker "Sivand" had collided with berth 1. Unfortunately whilst lifting the 180 ton deck of one of the mooring dolphins one of the barges legs collapsed, breaking off the cranes jib and dumping it all back to the river bed together with most of the equipment on deck.
Fortunately the three crew, although thrown into the river, were picked up safely.
The barge was eventually lifted by Smitt Tak heavy lift cranes and and supported by two barges as seen in the shot. "Stevin 73" was towed to Rotterdam for repairs.
