OCEANUS

The Norwegian bulk carrier MYLLA, built 1967, arrived on 5th August 1968 at the RDM yard and was repaired because of heavy damage to bottom and stern. She was then (on 19th September 1968) transferred to Greek owners and renamed OCEANUS. IMO 6701486.
1985 renamed LEROS CHALLENGER
10th May 1986 broken up at Nantong.

Built in 1967/10 by Sir James Laing & Sons Ltd Deptford Yard Sunderland United Kingdom as " MYLLA " for I/S MS Mylla ( Simonsen & Astrup Rederi A/S Oslo as manager ) Oslo Norway.

Tonnage : grt /nrt / tdw - 29.426 / 20.788 / 50.640.
Main Engine : Doxford 2SA 6 Cyl (760x2.180) - 15.000 bhp.(Opposed Piston Design).
Aux.Engine : 3 x 425 kw.
Emerg.Gen : 1 x Kw.
Exh.Boiler : Economiser Composite.

1968 Sold to Neptune Maritime Co Ltd Monrovia Liberia,renameed " OCEANUS ".
1977 Port of Register changed to Piraeus Greece.
1985 Sold to Admiral Navigation Co Ltd Valletta Malta,renamed " LEROS CHALLENGER ".

1986 BU Nantong China.

One of a series of almost identical bulk Carriers built at Laings and Thompsons from the mid sixties. Austin and Pickersgill also built two each in two halves that were towed to the Tyne for joining up in Palmers drydock, Hebburn. Excellent information Bno
