Oslo, Aker Yard

The Aker Yard in Piperviken in Oslo 1850s. The mast crane in the shipyard was highly visible in the old days and many yards in Norway were known locally as 'the crane.' This one does not look particularly tall though.

Stein,
sheerlegs ('the crane') were used to lift heavy engine casting or whole engines into ships.

Hi johnadab. You're probably right: that contraption is not for masting ships. Regards, Stein.
