I sailed with an AB who had once been a professional wrestler and was certainly a much tougher cookie than most, although a very nice guy. When he found Lyttelton was my home port he told me of his time on Port Wimbledon, lying on Gladstone Pier, with Otaio on the Breastwork. Those who know Lyttelton will recall that to get to or from Gladstone Pier you have to walf along the Breastwork. No problem going to the British but there they met a number of Otaio cadets in uniform who were duly given a hard time. When they tried to return to the Port Wimbledon the Breastwork was blocked by Otaio cadets. What did you do? we asked breathlessly. What do you think? he replied, We went back to the British.
