Two more outstanding paintings, as always with plenty of light and atmosphere. I am curious as to the identity of the ship at left in the Otaki painting. It looks familiar.

Jim, Dave and Don - I thank you for your appreciative comments.

David - Thank you also - in selecting the vessel for the left hand berth, I did not want anything too dominant and was also looking for something to help indicate the Southern Hemisphere location. I used an image of the GALE to work from, she was part of the Canterbury S.S.Company fleet built in 1935 and with her derricks etc I thought she fitted the part.
My reference photo was a broadside view which I had to re-interpret as a stern view.
Hope this helps.

Tony:
I initially thought it might have been a Watts, Watts freighter, though come to think of it now, I'm unsure if any WW ships made it to New Zealand (correct me if I am wrong). In any event, it fills the bill superbly and your 'reinterpretation' of the broadside view is outstanding.

David - I think WW ships may have traded on general tramping duties - but I am not to sure on this. John may be able to help on this one.
