In the 1970's I visited Papeete many times while I was onboard the Royal Viking Star, we used to have a good time there, it was one of the ports were we stayed overnight.

Seen that beautiful place in 1963, the only things that look the same are the high green areas the sky and the sea, it might be the same wharf and the little unusual red and white craft is strangely reminiscent of the big old black and rusty hulled French tramp steamer that was tied up in about the same place. She wasn't going anywhere as most of her crew were enjoying the delights of Quinns Bar.

I noticed that the red hulled vessel is flying the Canadian flag. With her fish boat lines I would imagine that she is probably a tuna boat. There are quite a few of the larger boats from B.C. that will go that far in search for the tuna. The fact that they freeze whole on board means they can stay away until they are full. they can pull in wherever for food and fuel.
