Pascagoula

Now where to place this picture? It really belongs in the "sweet and cute" category,- and with so many softies here, maybe we ought to have one! Whatever, I like it.
The place is someplace in the USA named Pascagoula.

Been there, Mississippi gulf coast. Sweaty place, full of bugs and mossey's.
Severely damaged by hurricane Katrina.
One shipbuilding yard, Engles, that recently built passenger ships.
EG, American Patriot.

Hi Stein,
During August 1967, we called at Pascagoula MI with the Norwegian MS Sagatind" of Sandnessjøen, loading sugar in bags. From this gulf port, I rember bugs and heat, since no aircondition in our little coaster. Destination of sugar and additional cement from Barranquilla in Colobia, the inland port of Iquitos, Peru, 4.000 kilometres river steaming from Belem at the Atlantic coast of Brazil.

I don't think the 'sweet & cute' category ever happened but it is a great shot. The two little chaps are totally engrossed and I love the way the blonde one is absentmindedly hitching up his pants. That model has nice lines.

I was posted to Pascagoula , Mississippi in the mid 1990's to act as the "Future Operator's Representative" to SUPSHIPS during the final stages of construction and testing of RV ATLANTIS AGOR 25 a new research vessel being built by the US Navy to be operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute of Cape Cod. After Woods Hole (WHOI in Navy speak as every other word used is an acronym). After WHOI gained control of the vessel I was made her first Chief Engineer.

Pascagoula is a great town and I enjoyed my sojourn there immensely. I was provided with a nice apartment and a rental car and had the time as well as the inclination to explore in depth the Gulf Coast regions of Louisiana , Mississippi , Alabama and Florida. The ship yard that built Atlantis was Halter Marine and is located in Moss Point , Mississippi which is located on the Bayou just East of Pascagoula.
