The Portuguese 3 masted grand banker pure wooden schooner PATRIOTISMO, 55m/287gt, built 1923 by J. dos Santos Borda Jr., Fão, Esposende, for Parceria Maritima do Douro, mgrs J.J.Gouveia, Oporto. An aux. engine was installed in 1935. She was converted in cargo schooner in 1940 and wrecked near Peniche, due a gale, 1 man lost the life, in 17/02/1941. Hull red band, grey and water line in copper.
Seen leaving River Douro, Oporto, in tow, for a new cod fishing season in the Grand Banks in the 20s. A pilot boat is seen alongside.
