Playing safe !

Last visits to Belfast caused concern when she lay with the Union Flag inverted. This time she would appear to be sitting on the fence with the Red Hand of Ulster flag on the Stbd. halliard.

I wonder how many people realise the significance of the red hand?

Roy, about the same percentage that know the difference between the Union Flag and the Union Jack I would imagine, and of those a smaller percentage who care.

The legend about the Red Hand goes along the lines of an Old King had two sons and promised the Throne to the first of his two sons lay a hand an the Island in Lough Neagh, Ulster.
The two sons took to the water and began to swim, as they neared the island it became obvious that one son had a lead that the other could not hope to overcome. The losing son took out a knife from his garments and cut off his hand and threw it onshore thus being the 'first hand to reach the land' and he was duly awarded the Throne after the Old King's demise.

Or so the legend goes (Jester)
