Stan.
Thanks for the picture, its not pre WW2 as she did not enter commercial service until after the war being taken over when new by the Admiralty and converted to a minelayer HMS Port Quebec latterly becoming a depot/repair ship with the Canadian navy as the Deer Sound. Uniquely her ships bell on the foc,sle had both these names engraved when I sailed in her 62/63.I think this photo is 1950,s as ship had a major refit around 1960 when new refrigeration equipment was fitted and accomodation for Radio Officer was fitted where the water tanks are situated on this photo on the bridgedeck. When I sailed in her the Captain was Ian North who was sadly killed in the Falklands War whilst in command of Atlantic Conveyor.
Agreat character who taught me a lot as a young apprentice.

Thankyou Doug -
The six Port Line ships were uploaded as pre WW 2 built.
Duncan Haws book Merchant Fleets records her as being built in 1939 and intended for the MANZ service...but requisitioned by the Admiralty - then all the details you have given.
Regards Stan
