Portsmouth Harbour

Portsmouth Harbour

As seen from the spinnaker tower, just one breathtaking view………..half the fleet were in dock at the time, HMS Gloucester, Westminster, Kent, Grafton, Lancaster, Liverpool and Iron Duke,,,,a bit concerning at least 3 Hunt class and 3 Sandown class vessels in the basin behind the Victory all unmarked

My..how times fly...I remember when the dockyard trains used to roll over the harbour, to the stern of Warrior... and the small lads called .....'MudLarks'.... who would rummage in the harbour mud for the odd penny that travellers used to throw for them, off the station bridge.

The long building infront of the Victory is the rope walk, once the longest building in UK and it was there thet all the ropes used by the Royal Navy were made.

You will note that there are 4 floors to the building, The lightest ropes were made on the top and the heaviest hawser on the ground.
