President Grant or President Lincoln, Hamburg America Line

In my book, Die Schiffe der Hamburg Amerika Linie, volume 2, page 26 and 27, only President Grant has that dark lookout barrel, and the two tallest vents aft of the funnel painted white. But it's real hard to tell them apart: Lincoln had yard number 353 at H & W, Grant 354. Both ships were launched for Wilson and Furness Leyland Line, who retreated from the contract, and the ships were finished for Hamburg America Line.

Hi Stein, Googling images of President Lincoln also brings up shots showing her with lookout barrel and white vents!

Here's a view of PRESIDENT LINCOLN that I posted some time ago--perhaps we can compare similarities or differences to the above photo.--

Looks like a tough job finding what could definitely tell them apart.

Well she is PRESIDENT GRANT. The same photo (Courtesy of The Peabody Museum of Salem) appears in Arnold Kludas`book Die Geschichte der Deutschen Passagierschiffahrt Vol III. in my collection.
