Well congratulations on the worlds hockey championship. This time you really deserved it. (Strange this: now that the Canadians have begun to play on the field, (when playing here at least) they have begun to complain here that the European players don't fight enough).
Personally I miss the "big red machine". The super lineup: Petrov, Michailov, Charlamov, and with Vasiljev in defense, Tretiak in goal, and some fun individualist like Maltsev. They probably are superceeded by today's players, but at the time they were clearly above what Canada sent over here. The Canadians said at the time that the rink was too large for them, that they were tired from the season, that the best players were not ready, and that Canada was really not that interested in the worlds. The only thing I saw was that the Soviets were better. But as said, today I'll go along with what your T-shirt says. Regards, Stein.
