QE2 departing Stavanger

QE2 was a frequent visitor for many years from the eighties until she was retired. We miss her!

Could she actually berth in the inner harbour? As I recall, there was not a lot of maneuvering room.

I think Clive said it quite clearly.

"NORWAY was able to and she was longer than the QE2".

NORWAY... 1,037 Feet (316m) in length
QUEEN ELIZABETH 2... 963,5 Feet (293.5m) in length

The QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 always berthed alongside at Stavanger, upto three large passenger vessels can be berthed in the inner harbour simultaneously.

The NORWAY undertook several cruises involving a call at Stavanger where she berthed in the inner harbour. In 1984 the NORWAY was based out of Amsterdam for a short series of Northern European cruises between July 28 and 08 September.

When I was on the Queen Elizabeth 2 we always berthed in the inner harbour.

The QUEEN MARY 2 at 1,132 Feet (345m) in length is a regular caller to Stavanger on her Northern European cruises and also berths in the inner harbour. She is 95 feet longer than the NORWAY.

Last time I was in Stavanger the ORIANA, QUEEN VICTORIA and VENTURA were all berthed alongside the inner harbour at Stavanger with the market's along the quay.

Svein1... QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 was a regular at Stavanger for far longer than the eighties, her first visit to the port was in July 1972.

Btw.... We all miss her but at least she is still very much alive and with us for all to enjoy unlike many of her contemporaries. The excellent Hotel QE2 in Dubai. I thoroughly recommend a visit for those that have an affection for the magnificent QUEEN ELIZABETH 2.

Hello Sean.

You are right I had miss read what Clive had said.

I also had been in Stavanger in June 2005 on Sea Princess on a cruise up to Spitsbergen and the Midnight Sun.

Alan, Here's my picture of Norway at Stavanger in her first season of cruises to Norway.

Thanks to Sean for explaining everything - by the way, Shipspotting rejected this photo because there is a boat in the foreground, strange that, in a harbour..... ;-)
