QE2

1980
January: First transit of the Suez Canel

A little piece of her history that makes one proud that she and thee ~ if applicable ~ are British.

World Cruise: Yalta. Soviet authorities suddenly demand that only passengers with a Soviet visa or pre-paid tour be allowed ashore.

Taken from the QM2 I think.
Love the story about Capt. Arnott; good on him!
I wonder if the Soviets learned anything from this episode? Probably not!

I have the same picture to this taken from Queen Victoria when she was doing a tandem crossing to New York. I forget the year but QE2 plowing her way through the rough sea of the North Atlantic was something I remember. By contrast there was also a picture taken from QE2 towards Queen Victoria showing how she buffered her way through the rough sea.

This photo was taken, as Alan says, from Queen Victoria on 9th January 2008.

The comparison of the reciprocal pictures has been stated by some as the difference between a bulldozer and a plough.

Queen Mary 2 also made some tandem crossings alongside QE2 during 2008 - On these occasions both ships apparently performed in similar fashion but QM2 did not pitch quite as much.

Yes I stand corrected, picture taken from QV.
Looking back on this website I discovered the date was 07 Jan 2008 and there are also pictures of the QV 'diving' through the seas. I wonder which one provided the smoother crossing?

I think QE2 was frustrated by the speed that Queen Victoria could achieve and therefore slowing her down!
