This was the Raffaello's Maiden Voyage departure from Genoa in 1965. I believe Michelangelo followed her on the next day. Both ships were in New York for a few days and it was magical to see them together along with the France, Queen Mary and United States! Some wonderful memories there...

For the date I confirm. In the picture the "Raffaello" is leaving her mooring at "Ponte Andrea Doria" (Ponte, in this meaning, is the Italian for "Pier". I remember I sailed from Genoa on July 23 for Istanbul on the Turkish M/V "Karadeniz" and both the sisters were there. The Tirrenia ship is the M/S Torres on the auxiliary Genoa-Porto Torres (Northern Sardinia) run. I remember with nostalgy those days. For the whole city of Genoa the maiden voyage and the pre-maiden voyage days of both sisters were indeed as a kind of festivity and there was a massive popular participation to the inauguration of both new Italian Flagships. The same happened for the inaugurations of the "Leonardo da Vinci" in june 1960 and for the "Andrea Doria" and "Cristoforo Colombo" respectively in 1953 and 1954 .
