Remember when...

Remember when you used to paint your ships name or other comments on wharf. These were painted at Appleton Dock, Port Melbourne.

Just last week I commented to my wife that the Alcan jetty at Blyth looked 'wrong'. When she asked why, I said the ships calling haven't painted their names on it yet, after all these years.
I expect it's something to do with a ban on painting by Elfinsafety - fumes from the paint etc.
Just imagine painting a mast nowadays complete with hard hat, goggles, gloves, lifebelt, steel toed boots and safety harness complete with 'soft fall area' around the mast...

We painted a smiley on the bulbous bow of cunards reefer "servia"....loaded bananas in panama....the mate was none too happy on discharge in europe when a big smiley appeared as she came up

Painted my name just above rudder on Donegal when we were in Mombasa Nick. Pretty well painted my name and ships name in most places when i could. Even in my cupboard/wardrobe!!! Cheers Dave
