The sinking of the REVI, and more importantly the rescue of her crew was quite a significant event in the history of the R.N.L.I.. The then skipper of the Humber lifeboat, Brian Bevan, was awarded a gold medal for his actions during the REVI rescue, and, at the same ceremony, silver and bronze medals for his part in two other rescues. This was the first time that a lifeboatman had been awarded all three medals at the same ceremony
