RFA Stromness

A classic ship. Even Lancastrian must find NESS boats good to look at! She is due to go out of service from the US Navy any time now I think.............42 years young.

Whaddya mean even Lancastrian? I have never had a problem appreciating real good looks!
On balance I think these were just beaten by the Forts.

Memory problem. What were those after derricks for and why the red ends?

Vertically stowed derricks aft of the funnel were often given black tops for housekeeping reasons - I guess it was a local idea to change to red to point up to helos using the vertrep platform. Perhaps the more usual yellow and black for obstructions would have looked a bit odd ? For ? I think they must be to work loads to and from the vertrep platform, connecting with the lift.
