Oh dear. No mention of mobile phones, emails or internet. Nothing about Lady sailors or LGBT issues. How did they manage to crew all those hundreds of ships?!.

I had to have a quiet chuckle as I worked out some comparables between the 'lowest of the low', RN aged 15 3/4, on £8.06 per annum with free 'outfit' and possible bonuses and engine room artificers on £137.80 per annum ~ roughly 17 times more with similar 'perks' and both at today's figures.

Why Guilford, the County Town of the County I live in, was chosen for this recruitment drive I've no idea, as it's just over 37 miles by road to the coast.

Circa four decades later MN deck officer cadets {the lowest of the low} were on circa £8.50 per month with no 'perks' whatsoever aside from 'free, on board, food and accommodation'. Uniform, boiler suit and a list as long as your arm ~ including hussif and contents ~ were at your expense. The final kick in the proverbials was your compulsory correspondence course, where a 'chunk' was taken out of that £8.50 each and every month.

Happy days, happy memories but looking at todays floating metal, together with a wealth of other reasons, I would no more go to sea nowadays than use a neuter friendly public loo.
