From what i can remember from 1964, they slid grain sacks down the shutes and at the bottom there would be dock workers who slit open the bags and and filled the cargo holds, a pretty long process.

i did a few trips there on the swan river we loaded grain there and i can remember looking down one night and seeing these enormous rat like animals running about on the mud and the games of soccer we used to have on the quay everyday great place great times we had
