ROYSTON GRANGE

Houlder Brothers' 1959 Hawthorn Leslie, Hebburn, built ROYSTON GRANGE is seen passing Hoek van Holland outbound from Rotterdam on 24th June 1970 during a voyage from Buenos Aires to London.

On 11th May 1972, on the same route, she was in a fatal collision 35nm South West of Montevideo.

She finally arrived at Barcelona on 20th May 1974 for breaking.

A sad loss indeed. I was at college with the third mate (Stuart Third) prior to his joining the vessel. His fiance was devastated, unsurprisingly.

All Hands & passengers were lost in the inferno that followed the collision. There is a memorial to her in the form of a stained glass window in the Merchant Navy Church, All Hallows by the Tower, London.

Very sad....Spent some time socialising on her sister Hardwick Grange while berthed at Bahia Blanca Argentina
