SAGA SAPPHIRE

SAGA SAPPHIRE

Saga's 'new' vessel SAGA SAPPHIRE as she will appear after rebuild, refit and repaint, later this year. Not too many changes externally other that the new balconies at the after end on the uppermost deck and the removal of No. 1 lifeboat.

This is the first ever painting of SAPPHIRE. Oil on canvas, 11 x 14 inches, painted on board SAGA RUBY on passage Long Beach to Southampton April 2011.

I am so used to the quality of your beautifully painted works that it's easy to take them for granted so I want to say how much I look forward to seeing them. This one even manages to draw some style out of a modern cruise ship. Will we get to see a painting of the Saga Ruby? Now there is a ship with real style.

Stephen,
It's so nice to see her still with us! I remember Europa very well and my trip on her. What a classy ship. She looks stunning in these colors. I only wish her many, many happy years of continued sailing! Another beautiful painting from the master!

The atmosphere of this picture is breathtaking - a veil of sea-spray and mist, with shafts of light. Thought it was a water-colour at first. Imagine being able to paint that on board 'Saga Ruby'....Wow! How could you have done that, Stephen? I couldn't attempt it, even without the magnetism of such a beautiful liner all around me! Donald.
