One would perhaps not liken it to the garden of Eden, but, with some attentive servants, some good wine and glorious memories, still better than living in a backwards moving tent in wintry Russia.
Visited first trip on Clan Menzies, as a cadet ship we were treated to a run ashore visiting Napoleons house and the famous tortoises, was back again three years later on Clan Graham. Certainly interesting visit and Clan Line had a few Saints as crew in our fleet. Wonder how airport will affect life?
Probably a Union-Castle liner 1950s/60s. Ships on the 'Round Africa" service (eg Rhodesia/Kenya/Durban etc Castle) would call on both East and West-about circuits.
