Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick

The 41 foot Galway hooker Saint Patrick owned by Paddy Barry,Dublin, framed by an ice arch on his trip to Greenland in the summer of 1993. Built in 1911 and bought by Paddy in 1979, he sailed her across the Atlantic to Boston in 1986, rebuilt in 1988 he made voyages to the Faroes, Spitzbergen, the Baltic to Russia, and to Greenland. She featured on the 1982 Irish 22p. postage stamp. Sadly in May 2002 while on a mooring at Glandore, Co. Cork, she broke her mooring chain in a SE gale and was wrecked on the rocks. 91 years afloat, she and her owner Paddy played an important part in the recent revival of these wonderful craft.
