Phill, you are obviously allowed to get closer to the cruise ships at Sydney then we are in Melbourne.Is the area open to public when ship in port? Cheers dave

Hi Dave,

The overseas terminal has two obseration decks that we can access to look down (or in this up) at the ship. There's a small area where you can get close to the bow of the ship - you can just see it in the other photo, near the mooring lines.

In Melbourne is Station Pier closed to the public?

Hi Phill, Yes just after 9/11 its been no go onto Station Pier when a cruise ship in. Cant go past the main gates so only view from along foreshore. I havnt been onto pier since the ban as if i cant get up close to see the crew working lines etc and take close up shots not interested. Must be sad for passies when ship pulls out and only dock workers and ships agents to wave goodbye. Seems like a lot of you know what but govt. official told me thats what shipping lines as part of security for ship and passengers.How we get this treatment yet you can get close i dont know. Dave
