Sapphire Princess was actually built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki, Japan and delivered in 1974, after being delayed by a major fire during outfitting.
Transom sterns are far more efficient than spoon or cruiser sterns for fast vessels, which is why they have been fitted on warships for decades and are used on almost every merchant ship built today.
