The SCORPIO has not been scrapped, she is still laid up at Cagliari as the SCORPIO I. The other three vessels (plus the smaller SCATTO) were indeed scrapped. The GUIZZO (sister of the SCATTO) is still laid up at Palermo.
While it is true that the fuel price killed off these ships, I do believe that were not even profitable at the "old" fuel prices at the time of their entry into service.
AHA! Well see - I heard that all four were sent to Turkey, so I thought so was the case! Well, maybe she can have a future in Venezuela like some of the Stena HSS1500s. Many of these ships between Lazio and Campania regions on the mainland to Sardinia see this transport line as "an enduring must" rather than a part of the holiday experience. I have rarely met one Italian who is fancy about the Tyrrenian crossings. Many I know say "they hate the ferry crossings"... ;-(
