Are "they" trying to pretend that the yards / engine works never existed OR haven't gone away? Sadly there aren't plaques down the Tyne either and I await to see what will mark the spot of the VT / John I Thornycroft Woolston yard.
It is as well that we have such as your books and pics as a minimum reminder of our amazing industrial past.
