Great to see a good colour photo of her. I remember her from my time in Portsmouth around 1969. She was actually W. (in a lozenge, as can be seen in the photo) 9 SERVITOR, and the hoppers, which used to dump off the Nab, just had W numbers. The last time I remember seeing steam smoke on the horizon !
Unregistered. She was built for and initially operated by the Ministry of Public Buildings & Works although she is usually listed under Admiralty craft.
Gil.
She came into Husbands Shipyard in 1971 for her 5 yearly overhaul/survey when I was doing my apprenticeship.
On the evening before she sailed back to Pompey, myself and a friend went on her to take B&W photos, which I still have, plus a coulple of slides. The Chief had a good batch of 'homebrew' on the go !
I believe she was scrapped around 1976, but may be wrong. Purely by chance, in 2004 I purchased her engineroom builders plate from an auction in UK, which a friend bid on for me and then shipped to NZ. All the more interesting as on that evening in 1971, I posed below the said plate, and the photo of a much younger me now hangs below the plate in my collection.
We also had some of the Hoppers mentioned above, in for survey as well.
