Went aboard a similar vessel to this up at Bath in Maine USA back in 1991. Aren't these vessels more commonly known in the States as "Downeasters"?.

No, I guess you are thinking of the two masted Gloucester fishing schooners that looked a bit like this one. "Down Easters" were the wooden square riggers generally produced "down East" in the later phase of US shipbuilding.
