Sigsilver

SIGSILVER

Built in Japan and launched on 9 December 1966 and for several years was the largest dry cargo ship in the world. She weighed in at 57,318 gt and her diesel engine gave her a service speed of 14.5 knots.
In 1971 she was sold and renamed Chelsea Bridge and within two years had been renamed Iron Sirius.
She was broken up at Shanghai beginning 14 July 1986.

I joined in japan as 3rd Year apro for handover to BHP Iron Sirius. What an ugly thing she was. She had a few nick names none printable.

I sailed on her as Iron Sirius - I know what you mean Ashley, not very PC anyway.

The bosun there was a tough nut called George and the mate used to refer to him and the ABs as Boy George and the Culture Club. Actually, I had a pretty good time on her - coal from NSW to Japan.
