A very desolate looking spot.
It was from this light that the last ever sighting of the steam trawler Red Falcon, LO4 was made on the morning of the 14/12/1959, as she steamed home towards Fleetwood from Iceland.
Lost with all hands, the keeper of the lighthouse, told the board of trade enquiry that on that night the lighthouse was hit by two rogue seas that were so big that they both broke over the lantern housing, shortly after he had spotted the steaming lights of the trawler, and that after the light had been hit by the seas, nothing more was seen in the direction of the steaming ship.
Sadly only small pieces of wreckage was ever found, and no ship of her size could have withstood those conditions.
The real price of fish!
