Small puffer. they traded around the coast of Scotland.

Taken at Irvine harbour 1993 aprox. Looked in good condition. still trading ?
Many used to carry coal, also around the island with all sorts of goods, as in Parra Handy tales.a BBC TV show.

Hello Rob.Norrie, looks like she's berthed at the museum ?
They also traded to Irish and Solway ports.
We may have more details on her from others, regards Kenny.

This is the Spartan one of the vessels at the museum. What is intriguing is she is named in the picture as "Golden Star". I wonder if this was something to do with a film or T.V. programme. No doubt someone out there will know.....

Spartan,
As it was some time back, 1993 aprox. I cannot remember, she was sitting at the berth across from "the ship" pub.in Irvine.
The coal puffers that I remember were all ending in Light e.g. Starlight etc.

Yes the SPARTAN. Certainly looks a lot better than she did in the 1980s laid up in the basin at Bowling.

Thank all comments,
I took for memories, as remembered them well in the 50s 60s calling at Dunoon with coal.
Regards Rob.

Still looking good, november 2008, she was slipped last year and had a lot of work done and a good paint job, saw her looking worse in her working days, its a shame they aren't looking after the tug Garnock as well ,she is looking very abandoned.
