Hi Firey,

When I was onbord the M/T Hallanger in 1972, she was a large chemical tanker 36,000 tns and with 33 tanks to clean we had long hours and hard work but that equated to a lot of overtime and tank cleaning bonus!!!!!!

Frank as 3rd mate I got no overtime just 6 hour bridge watches whilst the mate was tank cleaning, only consilation was listening to radio Luxembourg to keep me awake no luxury of a lookout for company. As she coasted round Europe and up baltic in Winter we were loading or discharging every 2-3 days.

Hi Firey,
If I remember rightly, on Norwegian ships in the 70's the officers got paid for any overtime that they did. When the deck crew were tank cleaning, doing 6 on and 6 off we got 6 hours overtime per day plus the tank cleaning bonus.
