( was he on the Station tanker " Solen" off Zaire in 1975/76 ??)

No Jim, he was English through and through. Would be lovely to have him identified. He would be around 67 years old now if he's still with us.

Hi Stuart,
The poise and the *** reminded me of a Dutch 3/E on Magdapur in mid 60's. He was well into his 50's then - seldom wore a boiler suit, if he did it would be tied around his ample waist A vest, beret, boots and *** were his trademarks. When manouevring if a telegraph for greater revs he would turn round and give a roar with upraised arms as a signal to the firemen - Initially bemused by these antics the firemen and some of the bolder Tindals would respond in like style. I don't think he would have stayed long. I got the impression he was a bit of a drifter.
His energy for someone of his age was impressive though.
