This is Eric Jones who was the Sparkie on Brocklebank's Malakand and was taken by Jo Dashwood-Howard between 17 June and 16 October 1934 while he was 4th Mate on a Middlesbro' - Calcutta - Glasgow deep sea voyage.
The photograph was taken at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, Ceylon as it was then. This was a very popular trip out to get away from the ship when alongside the harbour.
