This is the SS TARANTAU.It was one of the last steam powered self discharging bulk carriers on the Great Lakes.She is seen here at International Marine Salvage of the Great Lakes at Port Colbourne Ontario Canada.The ship was 730' in length and had a steam powered whistle in the low octives of QUEEN MARY.It sat idell in Toronto for almost a decade in the late 80,s and was finally towed via the Welland Canal to Port Colbourne at the west end of the Canal.There she disappeared very quickly.The series of photos here are about a 3 month spane appart.The very last time I visited her the last photo shows all that was left.It really hurt to return that day not knowing what I was to see.Fare well old girl

Think this was one of the vessels that had their pilothouse cropped to fit in certain loading docks i.e Marquette with the chutes the are lowered into the cargo hatches.
