I remember when she entered service. First day on the job she sat firmly on the bottom at Fishbourne. Loaded with the press & dignitaries...was quite embarrassing for all concerned. Caused by the longer loading time taken at Fishbourne on the previous call that day, then that had a knock-on effect with unloading/loading in Pompey so by the time she came back to Fishbourne to get us...erm...the tide had gone out and she took so long unloading and loading she was sat quite neatly on the mud not going anywhere fast
From that point onwards we always tried to avoid sailings with Clare when making coach bookings where we had schedules to keep

She's had a few problems this year and been in HM dockyard a few times to rectify issues.

She should never have been introduced. I am fairly sure that at the time of her arrival there were due to be 3 sister ships built but they had been shelved due to the continuing problems with Clare.

Oh and she also eats cars too...the ramps didn't have the non slip surfaces on for the first couple of years, so many cars came to grief there. And on the top deck, cars hit girders alot due to poor turning space given when she was built so she could never carry the full compliment of cars on the upper car deck.

I used to hang back if I knew they were loading the upper car deck first...I always went on the lower deck, did not want a dent on the car, thank you very much. Automatic gearboxes are notorious for getting stuck on the ramp too...dreadful ship all round.

i thought they were going to build another ramp like red funnel has and alter the clare and the st class to load directly from shore to top deck

I think the recession has put paid to the ramp and St class modernisations.

They should put her in a yard somewhere, install a port and starboard set of waterwheels and a casino and I could well imagine her sailing up the Mississippi and down to New Orleans. lol.
