A Hog Island Type "B" transport delivered to the War Department as an Army Transport from the American International Shipbuilding Corporation, Hog Island (Philadelphia), PA in September 1920. Capacity varied over the years between 1,700 and 2,500 men.
Active for twenty years as a trooper, she was about to be withdrawn in 1939, but because of the war situation in Europe, she remained in service. Transferred to the Navy (AP-32) in 1941 and then in 1943/1944 converted to an Army Hospital Ship (8,909GT) with 509 beds. Used in both the European and Pacific theatres of war, she was then laid up in 1947 and scrapped ten years later.
