St.Sunniva,Clare,Hjatland,13 oct.2002,the day Northlink took over from P&O,and the North boats ceased to be a fun, just a long list of things Northlink said were not allowed any more.
Excellent picture. Very, very good. Pity that NorthLink is associated with negative thinking. We put off visiting Orkney and Shetland this year because hoteliers etc. were 'unable to cope' with the uncertainties about the ships' arrival times. The debate about speed and fuel consumption etc. seemed to me to be absolute madness, showing the worst of everything (including politicians who ought to have had more sense - assuming, of course, that they have/had any to begin with!). Yes, indeed. I was quite surprised - not what I am used to - but I did feel that the uncertainties and anticipated 'big decision' by a Minister rather than a Captain about the use of the throttles on the bridge did raise some justifiable questions. Political 'interference' in Scottish ferry services does cause my hackles to rise - Hebridean experience, I fear. (Cloud) See my comments on the 'Sprit of Tasmania II' photograph. Donald
Don't be put off,the boats run pretty much to time, they run at reduced speed anyway and only go full to make up time, about 24 knts.Bad weather seems to make Northlink stay in port ,whereas P&O would sail.S.E.gale will shut Aberdeen.Make sure you get a 2 berth cabin. Do come up.John
