STATENDAM

Holland-America Line's mid-century masterpiece, STATENDAM, is pushed into the North River late on a sultry Saturday in August, 1980.

Fond memories of this ship under three names; I sailed in her as a passenger when she was STATENDAM and later, RHAPSODY. Worked aboard her as a purser when she was REGENT STAR. (It was definitely better to be a passenger than a crew member on this ship!)

In my opinion, she would have looked even better in HAL's early 1950s livery w/black hull, yellow stripe and the green, white and yellow funnel.

When built Statendam had the 1950's Hollard America line colours. The orange funnel and dark hull came in the late 1970' She was a lovley looking liner. She looked splendered in her original colours and
also in orange funnel and bark blue hull.
