Oh yes it's Acrylics, on a very small piece of Gessoed Masonite, but thinner than usual perhaps. The Gesso ground absorbs a lot, about as much as watercolour paper I guess.
It works really well. More thoughts on brushstrokes. A painting can look laboured without a few confident brushstrokes. Your strokes, on the other hand, give the impression a happy birth for the painting. I've probably gone a bit effusive there, perhaps the wait for the next Stein might not be a bad thing, time to cool off and all that.
Rob. I do think some confidence in the hand comes with doing many pictures in a short time. Working as a "comp artist," as I did for many years, often doing a hundred sketches for a television storyboard overnight, the hand gets into a bit of routine. This is frowned upon by fine artists, perhaps mainly because it demonstrates a commercial background, but certainly also because of repetitiveness, as in standard waves, standard foam, standard clouds - and here standard steamer. Some might frown. Many others like me get inspired by your work Stein. Nothing wrong with commercialism, usually it's just envy that creates the frown! Thanks for putting on such a great set of pics.
I am going to call this latest display of Stein's work a 'SteinFest'! Imagine getting all this on a computer screen! Sheer wonder and joy. This pic is superb. Donald.
