Stentor

Stentor

Blue Funnel Stentor, seen here in Elder Dempster colours, her name was changed to Owerri while sailing for EDs.
Stentor started life as Memnon, one of my old ships, built in 1959, then was renamed Stentor in 1975, and replaced the old Stentor on the Singapore-Australia service.
She was sold to Greek

Pat., Remember her laid-up in Tilbury along with the 'GLENLYON' ,'PEGU' and 'CLEARWAY' awaiting sale. Believe she eventually was bought by Thenamris Group (Martinos family) . Handsome ship(Thumb)

Stumps,
I did one voyage in her in 1960 as JOS.
Not a very happy ship, the Choff was a piece of work!
she was very heavy on deck, but not the worst ship I sailed in.
Regards,
Pat

STENTOR was photographed arriving at Birkenhead on 13th August 1977. Soon to be renamed OWERRI, she sailed from London on 5th June 1978 as EUROPE owned by European Nav. Inc. (Captain S.Karnessis and Mrs.D.Vlassakis) who were forced by poor trading conditions to lay up the ship at Stylis on 3rd July 1982. She eventually sailed for Alang as PRIMUS, arriving on 5th February 1988 for breaking.
