Something to do with wartime service I would think.
The bridge front has shielding all over it although she is not in wartime paint work.
As for which ship it is, I can give a list of ships that it is not, but not who she is.
I think it is one of the intermediates, over to anyone else that can add anything.

Capetown Castle ? She ran around for a bit after the war looking like that . Probably an auxiliary generator - needing some TLC !

I am now pretty sure it is Carnarvon Castle.
She is the only ship of that era that has:
1. A flat bridge front
2. No cabs on bridge wings
3. The same number of life boats
4. The bow shape
5. Same shape funnel.

The ship I sailed on as a passenger in 1953 when our family left South Africa for Scotland ( my fathers place of birth ) Durban to Southhampton .
