8/1931 - Delivered by Furness Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Haverton Hill-on Tees to Hvalfanger A / S South Sea v / Johan Rasmussen & Co., Sandefjord - Registered in London - SVEND FOYN.
7/10 1941 - Torpedoed by German submarine U-502 (Kapitänleutnant Jürgen von Rosenstiel) in position 60.37 N and 21. 44 W sailing from New York to Liverpoo, carrying oil. She went to Reykjavik harbor. Went on to Liverpool. Arrived at Liverpool on 13/12 1941 and repaired at Birkenhead.
1943 - D / S SVEND FOYN Lost After Collision with Iceberg March 21, 70 miles from Cape Farewell South on Greenland sailing from New York to Liverpool carrying oil. 152 people were picked up, but 43 were drowned..

An interesting photo, the Norwegian man Svend Foyn invented the exploding harpoon.
I sailed on a Norwegian tanker the PET in 1969 and she was owned by Svend Foyn Bruun from Tønsberg, and I believe that they had an early interest in Whaling.
