Seen here berthed at Selfs Pt upstream from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia discharging a full shipment of Petroleum products. The ship has since been renamed and flaged and is now called Scottish Bard but has not been to Hobart under her new name
No she was built as the Tasman, her sister was named Mawson which also did a few voyages down to Hobart. I know nither of them are now as these names now and I don't think either of them are working in Australia any more. I know the Tasman was renamed Scottish Bard and reflagged and crewed and I think the Mawson was renamed Scottish Wizard and recrewed also.
"Tasman" was delivered to owners, Probo Pty.Ltd., at Pula, Yugoslavia on 16 October 1990 - she was one a number of the same class, from the same builders for various owners.
"Mawson" is mentioned as a sistership - however, this is not the case .... "Esso Gippsland" became "Mawson" when Esso sold its Australian petroleum refining and distribution interests to Mobil in 1990.
Thanks for the info Mike, I remember seeing the esso gippsland down here in Hobart and wondered what happned to her. althogh I do not have a picture of the esso gippsland/mawson I just recall they looked very very similar thats what made me think they were sister ships, but now that I think of it I think esso gip/mawson as a bit bigger wasn't it?
'Scottish Wizard was ex "Osco Surf",i sailed on Scottish Bard she remained aussie crewed up until Port Stanvac closure, towards the end of her aussie manned career she would bring product from Singapore to Australian east coast mainly Sydney,Melbourne.
