Tiger
Photographed at Portsmouth on 22 September 1986 , with the tug Smit Lloyd 25 alongside.
The tug had arrived at Portsmouth to take Tiger to her final resting place, the Spanish shipbreakers Desquaces Valera.
The tow was to being the next day, which was a dull and misty day.
Sorry for the scratches on the slide

Great picture Tim, the Tiger was such a fixture in the harbour during the 80s. I recall that week in Sept well, the Iowa was in port and it was as this picture shows beautiful weather. The day the Tiger departed was as you say misty and dull.

the little black and white boat in the foreground is the DRSO ( PROB THEN DILSUP) workboat which is still going to day a single screw beast with a mind of its own and is now parked behind semaphore tower at the steps which is where drso are now based

Was in Plymouth on the Bayleaf for a while when the Tiger was being converted, and used to pass the after 6inch turret which had been removed and dumped on the quay. Thought that might have ended its days in a museum as there couldn't have been that many 6inch guns about. If my memory serves me correctly the Lion was out on the trot awaiting disposal. (early 1972).

Steve, as you note the Iowa was in Portsmouth on the 22 Sept and was the reason I had travelled down, to see the battleship, not having seen any of the UK examples. See photo of Iowa taken on that day on the attached link
